The role of automotive paint layer The main classification of automotive coatings

The role of the paint layer of automotive coatings

  1. Protect the body

Traditional car bodies are mainly made of steel plates, and oxygen and moisture in the air react with the body, resulting in corrosion. Paint protects the body by preventing rust from occurring.

  1. Increase aesthetics

The shape of a body is made up of surface shapes and lines, such as planes, curved surfaces, and various curves. Paint can give these surfaces and lines a more three-dimensional look, adding to the aesthetics of the body.

  1. Play the role of a logo

Marking the car with a specific color for a specific purpose is very common in special vehicles, such as various engineering vehicles, fire trucks, etc.

  1. Improve quality

High-performance paint is not only a protective layer for the body to prevent corrosion, enhance the beauty of the body, meet people’s visual enjoyment, but also extend the service life of the body, so the quality and value of the car will be higher.

Classification of automotive coatings

According to the different coating objects, automotive paint can be divided into: (1) original paint for new cars; (2) Automobile refinish paint.

According to the coating on the car from bottom to top:

(1) automotive primer, now mostly electrophoretic paint;

(2) Intermediate layer coating for automobiles, that is, middle coating;

(3) Automotive primer (including solid primer and metallic flash primer;

(4) Automobile topcoat, generally refers to the solid color topcoat, which does not need to be overcoated;

(5) Varnish for automobiles;

(6) Automobile refinish paint.

Classification according to paint coating methods:

(1) automotive electrophoretic paint;

(2) Liquid painting for automobiles;

(3) Powder coating for automobiles;

(4) Special coatings for automobiles, such as PVC sealing coatings;

(5) Post-coating treatment materials (anti-rust wax, protective wax, etc.).

Classified according to the parts used in automobiles:

(1) coatings for automobile bodies;

(2) Coating for cargo compartment;

(3) Corrosion-resistant coatings for wheels, frames and other components;

(4) Coatings for engine parts;

(5) Chassis coatings;

(6) Coatings for interior decoration.
